18th International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama
The curtain of the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama will be raised on the 4th July 2014 for the 18th year. A multicultural programme is ready, promising the theatre friends moments of thrill, pathos and merriment. The audience will enjoy performances of ancient Greek drama from Croatia/Slovenia, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Cyprus at Paphos Ancient Odeon, Curium Ancient Theatre and Makarios III Amphitheatre in Nicosia, during July.
The Ministry of Education and Culture, Cultural Services, the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation announce the programme of the 18th International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama 2014; a programme that has been prepared in the middle of the economical crisis in Cyprus. The organizers of the Festival were not however disconcerted by the new economical realities. They remained faithful to their goal for presenting the friends and visitors of the Festival performances chosen for the originality of their approach, preserved the uniqueness of ancient Greek drama, while also bearing the distinctive cultural traits of the country from which they came, offering the public a multicultural entertainment of high aesthetic standards. The festival aims to continue supporting the Cypriot creators, and is the same time in a constant constructive dialogue with other countries.
This year all the performances of the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama are included in the official events programme of the Organisation “European Capital of Culture – Pafos 2017”.
The organizers of the Festival have taken into account the new economical realities and have significantly reduced the price of entry, since their diachronic goal is to offer to the public the opportunity to enjoy important performances from countries coming from different parts of the world. By reducing the price, theatre lovers are able to see more performances.
